What Preventive Measures & Healthy Food is Necessary For Your Child in Monsoon? - By Aman Pihal, Nutritionist

The monsoon season makes the environment damp. As a result, water accumulates in various places, making the perfect environment for insects and bacteria to breed.

Children often suffer from diseases like Viral fever, Malaria, Typhoid, Common cold, dengue, fungal infection and diarrhea. In addition, changes in weather affect the immune response in children, so including foods rich in vitamin C helps in keeping the immune response at prime.

Thus, you must exercise all the caution and precaution you can to protect your child.

Preventive Measures

As the risk of infections and diseases intensifies during monsoon, you need to be mindful of certain things.

1. Protect from Mosquitoes

The monsoon provides a perfect environment for mosquitoes to breed. Make sure your child wears light full sleeves and 100% cotton clothes. Keep minimal skin exposed. In addition, use mosquito repellents and nets on windows to keep them out.

2. Warm, Dry & Hydrated

Keep Them Hydrated

Dehydration can make your child susceptible to infection or catching a cold, cough or fever. Make sure they drink plenty of water. Hydration must be maintained and lukewarm water should be included preferably with a pinch of turmeric.

Additionally, hand them an umbrella whenever they are going out. Raincoats will also do the work. The aim is to ensure they do not get wet in the rain. And if they get wet by any chance, make sure they change to clean and dry clothes as soon as they reach home.

3. Clean Home

Keep your indoors clean and dry. Also, do not let water clog anywhere near your house. Clean the indoor clogs as well, like in the kitchen and bathroom. Dispose of garbage frequently and use insect repellents to maintain your home clean and infection free.

4. Home Cooked Food

Outside food should be avoided during this particular season to avoid the symptoms of monsoon flu. Although, you can experiment with regular dishes or cook any outside dishes at home once a week. This will ensure your child stays away from harmful bacteria and enjoys home-cooked food.
